This weekend, 1997 graduate Jonah Monroe and 2011 graduate Nathan Sampson will be part of the Super Bowl, though they won’t be playing.

Major Sampson will be flying over Caesar’s Superdome as part of the Marine Corps 250th anniversary celebration.
“When that national anthem hits its closing note there, we’re going to be coming in over the top of the stadium,” Sampson said.
Monroe will be a backjudge referee. NFL communications would not permit any interview with game officials, but Jonah sent an email to his alma mater saying in part:
“I’m very proud to represent Catholic High in the Super Bowl. I honestly (and privately) teared up thinking about Father Tribou, Catholic High and the impact it had on my trajectory to reach this point. Go Rockets!!”
“He said, ‘Catholic High set you up to fulfill the Super Bowl of whatever your passion is,’” Principal Steve Straessle said.

Straessle taught both students. He calls them an inspiration. Both would say the same about the school that molded them.
